Lisa Murray

I love looking at this picture because you’d probably never know it but I was PISSED at this moment!!! Remember the end of “Vacation” when Chevy Chases’ character is so stressed out about all the crap he went through to get to Wally World that he ends up taking the theme park workers by gun point and crazily makes them take his family around the part to ride all the rides? Yeah? Well, that was me except “Wally World” was the Entertainment Tonight/People Magazine party and I didn’t have a gun. This party was what I had been looking forward to for months. Everything was leading up to it. At the Emmys, there are sooooo many limos (as you can imagine) and so it was chaotic leaving. Well, not only was it chaotic, our limo driver was MIA. Our phone were in the limo because they don’t let you into the Emmys with a camera or a phone or whatever, so we left them in the limo… with a limo driver who was gone… missing. So hours, yes, HOURS went by. EVERYBODY WAS GONE. Their were workers breaking down the red carpet bleachers. I’m telling you, it was empty. Also, we were walking around all over trying to find him… in my Stuart Weitzman stilettos and it was September in Los Angeles and so it was HOT AS HELL. I don’t even remember how we ended up finding him. It was all a blur of talking with one of my favorite actresses, Holland Taylor (Two & a Half Men) who ironically was one of the judges who picked my video out of the thousands of entries they received as the Grand Prize Winner!. (So that part wasn’t too bad.) She introduced me to her husband and told him, “Remember the girl I was telling you about who one the contest, this is her, this is Lisa Murray” and he said, “Oh yes, hello.” Then she turned to me and said, “You are a very smart woman. You made smart choices with your video.” Yeehoo! Okay, but back to the limo search with NO cell phones to help…

Somehow, the wonderful woman who was with me from the contest company found him. I was numb so I can’t say that I was relieved at this point. It did feel good to get off my feet though and be in the comfort of an enclosed vehicle. But that “comfort” quickly faded. We were stuck in the worst gridlock on Sunset Blvd. I have ever seen on that street on our way to the party. At this point I was sweating, hot as hell, hair was flat, makeup was running, and I needed a drink so did I take deep breaths and recenter myself? NO. I opened the limo door (we were stopped for a LONG time so it wasn’t like I had to pull a “Starsky & Hutch” getting out of the limo or anything) and I got out and walked up Sunset with my jeweled Stuart Weissman stilettos, my $50k+ worth of jewelry, my Emmy gown, my “stranger hair” extensions… and I marched up Sunset Blvd. to the party with shoes in hand. I must have looked like I was some drunk or crazy broad because as you know, ‘nobody walks in LA!’ But I was determined. The contest reps. came running out to join me but I think they knew I had hit a limit.

So as I approach the hotel where the party is, I am relieved that I finally made it! After all that crap and here I was!! Yay!! Well, I get to the door and the Fire Marshal has SHUT DOWN THE ENTRANCE. He wasn’t letting anybody else in. I thought I was going to die. (Very “LA” of me!) So after about a half hour he let us in. I walked up to the red carpet, handed my camera to the girl from the contest who was with me the whole night, and said, “take my picture!” I was determined to have fun dammit! I got that pic taken (above), I went to the bar where I waited FOREVER again for a drink, slammed it down (and I think it was red wine too – ugh!) and then that’s when I met Naima Moore, America’s Next Top Model winner, and we hung out for a while, danced on the dance floor, and I ended up had a LOT of fun! So that’s the story behind this picture. Geesh!!

  1. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I found your article on hair extremely informative… personally, hair extensions have always been a passion of mine so I really liked your take. My favorite type of hair is remy hair, I just love the texture and I think Indian hair holds up best. Thanks again, I’ll be stopping by soon!
