Now Playing: "Pamper Me" (Tameka Dawn)

I meet fellow dreamers in the most interesting ways. They're easy to spot. They're the one shinning in the room! I met this month's IN THE SPOTLIGHT dreamer, Tameka Dawn, at a nightclub in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. She jumped on stage to sing a couple of songs with the house band. Her voice made everyone stop what they were doing and pay attention. She blew the crowd away! After her set, I went up to her to tell her how amazing she was and the next thing I knew we were trading business cards and then I saw her website, MySpace page, and heard her tracks and I just had to spotlight her! Tameka doesn't just live her dream, she RADIATES it. Please take a moment and show Tameka some love by visiting her sites below to listen to her music, buy her album, or to just stop by to say hello. This dreamer is already livin' the dream!!

LM: What is your dream?

TD: To be an International Recording and Performing artist.

LM: How long have you had this dream?

TD: Ever since I realized that my singing “gift and talent” could be my catalyst to see the world and touch lives through the International language of… “MUSIC”.

LM: Where do you think your dream came from?

TD: I know that my dream came from God's divine plan for my life.

LM: Where do you think all dreams come from?

TD: I believe that all dreams are simply instructions communicated spiritually to us in different forms.   They are the directions that help to guide us toward reaching our life's purpose and destiny.

LM: When will you know that you've “made it”?

TD: I don't think that I will know… because just when I think “IT JUST CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS”… it always does!   “Made it” is an expression of accomplishment, and as long as I live, there will always be room for me to accomplish more.

LM: Will you ever give up on this dream?   If so, what would cause you to give up?

TD: “NEVER”… I have been singing literally since I've been talking.   Giving up is not an option!   This dream goes far beyond my own personal desires, it's a spiritual gift and I have to fulfill my purpose by using what I've been blessed with.

LM: How has the pursuit of your dream changed you?   For the worse?   For the better?

TD: For the better: my pursuit has caused me to look at my life much more globally, and I have realized that no matter where you are in this world, we as people all share very common goals which are to love, be happy, and live life to the fullest!

For the worse: I've realized that although the USA is one of the best places on earth, there are so many other places that I would prefer to live!!   Other countries seem to have a much greater appreciation for American artists and music…

LM: What discourages you?

TD: When I do not feel that I am at PEACE, whatever the situation is!   Peace is a reassurance that you are on one accord with your inner spirit… when that feeling is absent… I feel discouraged!

LM: Who are your idols and/or sources of inspiration?

TD: My sources of inspiration are God and my immediate family.

LM: Does your family support your dream?   How do you feel about their support or lack of support?

TD: My family has supported my dream and me every step of this journey.   Because of their Love and Support, I have been able to dream “BIGGER” and be more confident in my decision to pursue my dream Internationally.   “I LOVE MY FAMILY and I THANK THEM” for everything they have done and continue to do in support of my dreams…

LM: Why do you think some people don't follow their dreams?

TD: Some people just won't listen to their inner voice, or follow their innate abilities and do what comes or feels natural to them.   Fear or lack of confidence in following their inner voice, keeps some people from realizing and/or following their dreams.

LM: What are your beliefs about being challenged?   A part of life?   An opportunity to grow?   A sign to turn around and go another way?

TD: Challenges are character builders!   They shape and mold you into the person that you ultimately become.

LM: If you could have one person, alive or dead, help you with your dream right now, who would it be and why?

TD: If I could have anyone help me with my dream it would be God!   This is the only being “alive or dead”, which can cause miracles to happen and dreams to truly unfold.

LM: When was the first time you publicly declared your dream to others?

TD: I was about ten years old.   I had a visual dream of an image that Michael Jackson described he sees while he is performing on stage, during a magazine interview.   I shared my dream and described that image to my mother.   Every since then, I have declared my dream to sing and perform publicly.

LM: Did that change your feelings about your dream?

TD: That experience was the link to help me realize that having the gift to sing was God given, and the joy you get from sharing the gift with others is much more spiritual than personal.

LM: Did others treat you differently once they knew about your dream?   If so, how?

TD: NO!   I have always been known for my singing abilities.   My dream was just a natural progression to do what I was blessed to do on an International level.

LM: Is there anything you are afraid of that will happen when you achieve your dream?   If so, what ?

TD: I am not afraid of anything… “WHY” be afraid?   What's destined to be will be.   As long as I know that I am living within my purpose, who or what am I to fear!!

LM: If you knew you couldn't fail, if you knew that no matter what, you will achieve your dream, what would you do differently right now?

TD: Nothing… I am whom I am today because of what I have and still live from day-to-day.   Right now… I am still being molded to be able to help others throughout the course of living my dream.   Experience is a good teacher!

LM: Do you believe it's important to maintain a balance in your life while pursuing your dream or do you believe it should be an “all-out effort”?

TD: Balance is vital for survival!   Life is more than just your dream.   There are so many people, experiences, opportunities, and feelings that must be encountered to help make dreams become reality.

LM: What advice would you give someone considering following their dream?

TD: One of my favorite sayings… “If you walk with purpose… You will collide with your destiny… and live your dream!”   That's all the advice you need…
